Technical Officer

General role description

Technical Officers provide essential technical support across a wide range of research and teaching laboratories in health, medical, and science disciplines. They are responsible for maintaining and operating equipment, preparing laboratory environments, and assisting with experimental procedures. These roles are vital to the smooth functioning of research activities and often involve collaboration with academic staff, researchers, clinicians, and students.

Key tasks and responsibilities

  • Prepare and maintain laboratory instruments, equipment, and materials
  • Set up and support laboratory experiments and practical classes
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and standard operating procedures
  • Perform technical tasks such as sample preparation, equipment calibration, and data collection
  • Troubleshoot technical issues and contribute to problem-solving in the lab
  • Provide training or supervision to junior staff, students, or interns
  • Assist with procurement, inventory, and maintenance of laboratory supplies
