General role description

Group Leaders and Group Heads are experienced researchers who take on leadership roles within health and medical research teams.

They set the scientific direction for their group, supervise researchers and students, and help secure funding to support ongoing work.

Group Leaders play an important part in shaping the research environment through leadership and active contribution to the scientific community. This may be either a mid-level or advanced.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide leadership for a research group and set scientific priorities
  • Supervise and mentor research staff and students
  • Manage research projects, budgets, and collaborative activities
  • Contribute to research publications and share findings
  • Build partnerships with other research teams or organisations.

Required qualifications

  • A PhD in a health, biomedical, clinical, or life science discipline
  • Experience leading research projects and teams
