UMBC Presents "Speed Networking"

When:  Oct 4, 2023 from 06:30 PM to 08:45 PM (ET)

Hello everyone!

My name is Brendan Geilen, and I am the Education Officer for the University of Melbourne Biotechnology Club (UMBC). UMBC is a duly recognised academic club based in the School of Biosciences at the University of Melbourne that aims to enhance students' professional careers at the university and foster a multidisciplinary community. It is my privilege to announce that we are hosting our annual "Speed Networking" on the 4th October. I would like to extend an invitation to the members of WILAM to get involved as our industry guests!

The event will take place from 6:30pm to 8:45pm in the evening and will involve direct discussions between industry guests and graduate students as you share your professional journey, the positives of your career and provide advice to students seeking to follow in your footsteps. After 10-15 minutes our student groups will rotate to the next guest and gain a wealth of knowledge about the different careers available in the biotechnology industry. The event is sure to benefit our students greatly, but don't worry, we'll keep it interesting for you with many unique questions and provide ample opportunity to network over refreshments throughout the night.

We hope that this networking platform can serve as a bridge between graduate students and the Biotechnology industry, to educate them on the various career pathways available to them and provide them with the opportunity to build their networking skills and develop their professional pitch. We believe this evening can benefit you and your organisation as a spectacular opportunity to spread awareness of your organisation and any current or future opportunities that you may have for both newer students and those graduating this year.

If you have any inquiries or wish to get involved as an industry guest, please contact me at We would love to get to know you and have you along to share your experiences with our eager cohort.

For graduate and undergraduate students interested in speaking with industry professionals, please register your interest through this link:
