Insights from the AMMA Future Solutions Roundtables hosted at the 2025 AMMA Medtech Showcase.
AMMA today releases its Future Solutions Roundtables Report, capturing practical actions and opportunities identified by health services, industry, and government during the AMMA Medtech Showcase on 16 October 2025.
The event featured 25 exhibitors and attracted over 150 participants from across health services, government, industry, and the broader innovation ecosystem, including representatives from 15 hospitals and health networks.
Across the day, participants explored a central question: how can industry and health best work together to shape the future of healthcare? Through plenary discussion, live product demonstrations, and facilitated roundtables, the program examined both the strength of the medtech sector and the factors limiting its full integration into routine health procurement. The Future Solutions Roundtables report summarises the afternoon’s discussions, which explored three issues fundamental to the future growth of local medtech manufacturing:
Topic 1: Using local capability to build resilient and efficient supply chains
Topic 2: Embedding value beyond cost in strategic sourcing
Topic 3: Developing partnership models to support the adoption of new technologies

What works today and what to build on
Roundtable discussions highlighted that the health system already has strong foundations to support local medtech manufacturing, including:
- Robust governance, probity, and regulatory frameworks that provide confidence in product quality and safety
- Established centralised procurement structures that deliver scale, efficiency, and baseline supply assurance
- Growing policy and cultural support for buying locally, embedding value beyond cost, and partnering with industry
Participants emphasised that progress can be achieved by evolving and better connecting existing systems, rather than creating entirely new ones.
Overall, local capability was viewed not as a symbolic preference but as a practical lever to improve reliability, accountability, and long-term system value.
Priority actions identified by the roundtables
Across the three Future Solutions Roundtable topics, participants converged on a clear, action-oriented agenda to translate intent into routine practice:
- Improve visibility of local capability and demand signals
- Strengthen procurement levers to recognise value beyond cost
- Introduce more flexible and accessible procurement pathways
- Establish clearer, predictable pathways from pilot to adoption
- Deepen partnership models between health and industry
Together, these actions were framed as practical ways to improve continuity of supply, accelerate adoption of proven technologies, and ensure existing health spend delivers greater long-term system value.
Further detail on the proposed actions is available in the full report below.
Informing AMMA’s next phase of work
The insights and actions from the Future Solutions Roundtables have been incorporated into the updated AMMA Industry Action Plan, ensuring the priorities identified by health and industry directly inform AMMA’s ongoing advocacy, programs, and engagement with government and health services.
